03What we knit

Six ways of building a sweater.

We organise the range by construction rather than by season, because construction is what sets the machine, the labour hours and the price.

02Gauge, and what backs it

Every gauge, with the machines behind it.

Gauge is the first question you will ask and the last thing a factory website usually answers. Move the dial: the structure redraws at that stitch density, next to the machine count and the monthly output it is backed by.

00.2Why buyers stay

Four things that are true here and are not true everywhere.

Operators at dial linking machines on the linking floor
A

420 hand beds is a commercial decision, not a legacy one

Intarsia with eight colours and no float on the reverse cannot be automated cheaply at this volume. Keeping a large hand-driven floor is what lets us quote real colourwork at a price that survives a buying meeting — and take short runs that an all-automatic factory has to decline.

B

Costed on knitted weight, not on a guess

Every quotation breaks out yarn count and consumption, machine time by gauge, linking operations, wash recipe and trims. You can see which line is carrying the price, and we can both see what happens if the gauge, the yarn or the neckline changes.

C

Quality is checked during production, not after it

Inspectors work at panel, assembly and final stage under ten dedicated lamps, and issue the remedy on the spot where one exists. Catching a tension fault at course 40 costs an hour. Catching it at final inspection costs a shipment.

D

The wash recipe is part of the approved sample

Handle and shrinkage are set in finishing, not in yarn. We lock the recipe at sample approval and do not adjust it for bulk without re-approval, which is why a re-order in month nine matches the shipment from month two.

Eight stages, one floor.

Nothing is subcontracted out of sight. Knitting, linking, washing, finishing, inspection and packing all happen in the same building, which is why a fault found on Tuesday is a fault fixed on Tuesday.

07Where it goes

Shipping to three continents since 2007.

Founded in November 2007, six months after the sampling and design department it grew out of. Since then the floor has run export programmes for domestic and overseas branded suppliers as well as directly for buyers.

Europe
Autumn/winter programmes, tight measurement tolerances, buyer-nominated compliance. Our largest destination by volume.
Australia
Counter-seasonal shipping windows, which suits a floor that would otherwise run light through the European summer.
North America
Volume basics on repeat contract, plus placed-motif and jacquard programmes for seasonal drops.
